This Halloween gets an extra dose of spooky magic because on the same day, Saturday October 31st, the second full moon of the month falls in the sign of Taurus. When two full moons happen during the same calendar month, the second one is called a “Blue Moon.” I’ve honestly never wondered where the saying “once in a blue moon” comes from but now I know!

It occurs once every few years, which isn’t that rare. But a full moon falling on the night of Halloween only happens once every 19 years so both events happening at the same time is in fact quite rare. This article will detail how we can embrace Taurus energy during the full moon to stay focused on what’s important and ground into our true nature even amongst the rocky 2020 events.

How Can We Describe a Taurus?

Taurus can be stereotyped as stubborn and slow-moving. They’re also teased for loving the finer things in life and enjoying a good nap with a soft blanket and a delicious meal. Looked at this a little differently, stubbornness can also represent knowing who you are, what you want, and what you stand for. Slow to move can also be described as deliberate and purposeful. One of Taurus’s greatest strengths is that they aren’t easily thrown off their center.

When they do decide to take action, it comes from a place of grounded strength. If we’re constantly scattered and being pulled in different directions, even if we have good intentions and want to accomplish things, it won’t matter if we don’t have focus and follow-through. And there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the finer things! Taking time to enjoy a meal or appreciate the present moment is really something a lot of us in this fast-paced world could use more of.

What Can We Learn from a Taurus?

There’s no denying that 2020 has been a tumultuous year. It can be easy to feel scattered and off-balance when things around us are so uncertain. It’s understandable to be fearful of what the next few months will bring, as this year has been filled with upheaval and tragedy for many. Taurus is symbolized by the strong and steadfast bull, and if we look deep down inside we may discover that we have a lot more determination and strength than we often give ourselves credit for. Humans are strong and we have an amazing ability to continue on even amongst terrible circumstances.

Taurus is here to teach us how to stay grounded no matter what’s going on around us. If that sounds impossible, think of the many amazing people in history who have done just that. If you don’t have any strong role models you can look to for guidance it’s never too late to find one. Reading a biography on someone who changed the world can be surprisingly encouraging (or if they’re really great a movie has probably been made about them!) One of my favorite movies I’ve seen recently is the movie Harriet, about the life of Harriet Tubman. She’s someone I’ve considered a role model since I was a child and I’ve always been amazed at her bravery and dedication to helping others. Taurus teaches us that we can access the same qualities and strengths we admire in others. Taurus are confident in their abilities, self-sustained, and know they have everything they need.

What Can the Taurus Moon Teach Us?

This moon, like Taurus, will carry earthy, grounded, and slow-moving energy. That’s not to say you might not feel intense emotions (it is a Halloween full moon after all), but Taurus energy doesn’t expect you to change overnight. A message this moon will bring is to ground our energy and focus on what we can personally do.

How can we be more self-sufficient? How can we better care for our physical bodies? Take care of our mental health? Where can you embody Taurus energy and be a little more stubborn (excuse me, dedicated) to your own needs and giving them to yourself? This isn’t to say we have to be a one-woman island, but the less scattered our energy is, the stronger we are and the better we feel.

Know that being grounded in who you are, what you stand for, and not being easily shaken will help everyone else around you be strong in who they are! Who knows what 2021 will bring, most likely beautiful, amazing things and difficult, challenging things. The goal isn’t to be an unfeeling robot but to be an empowered human that isn’t easily swayed or thrown off balance.

Here’s How You Can Slow Down and Embrace the Grounding of Taurus

This Halloween will most likely look different for a lot of us and this weekend is the perfect time to practice a very simple full moon ritual. The ritual is to just take a few moments to meditate and listen to your own breath. You can use an app like Insight Timer or find a meditation on Youtube if you’d like, but I encourage you to just sit in stillness with the sound of your own breath.

You can do this for two minutes, or ten, or get really crazy and do it for twenty! The length of time isn’t as important as the intention and energy you put into it. I recommend sitting in an upright position, relaxing your shoulders and jaw, and resting your hands on your low belly if that’s comfortable. Breathe in and out through your nose and see if you can breathe all the way down into your belly so much that you feel it rise with your inhale and fall with your exhale. That’s it! It may sound too simple but Taurus energy reminds us there’s strength in simply slowing down, getting clear on who we are, and believing that we can trust ourselves.
