The sign of Gemini and the energy of duality encourages us to embrace the idea that we can be multiple things at once and that it’s ok to find some freedom in that.

On Monday, November 30th, a full moon and partial lunar eclipse falls in the sign of Gemini! A lunar eclipse amplifies the energy of a full moon and illuminates what areas of our lives are working and what needs to be transformed. Gemini is a mutable air sign symbolized by twins and represents duality. This article will detail what kind of energy this lunar eclipse may bring up and how best to work with it in our lives!

Like I said, the sign of Gemini is represented by the twins, and the mythology tells the story of two twins, one mortal and one immortal, that were inseparable. This dual nature often leads to the Gemini being stereotyped as “two-faced.” But duality actually more so describes the contrast between two aspects of something.

As one of the mutable signs of the zodiac, Geminis are adaptable, quick minded, and excellent communicators. Their mutable nature paired with their air element also means they can appear flighty, or like they’re always jumping from one thing to the next. In actuality, they’re curious by nature and usually have multiple big ideas circulating in their head and various projects going on at the same time.

All of us have many different facets and parts to our personality. Often we put labels on ourselves and others because it helps us structure our world and feel a certain sense of control. The sign of Gemini and the energy of duality encourages us to embrace the idea that we can be multiple things at once and that it’s ok to find some freedom in that.

A total lunar eclipse is when the earth, sun, and moon all line up with the earth in the middle and earth’s shadow is cast onto the moon, making it appear dark. A partial lunar eclipse is when they don’t quite line up completely but part of earth’s shadow is cast onto the full moon. Eclipses add heightened energy to the full moon and signify release and transformation. They highlight what areas of our lives aren’t working and because Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, this moon may highlight the ways we communicate and express ourselves in the world.

We’re currently in Sagittarius season, which is a fun-loving and free-spirited fire sign that craves adventure and independence. If you’ve been feeling stuck or boxed in regarding certain ways you express yourself, you might feel called to look for ways you can express all of the different parts of yourself. Fiery Sagittarius energy paired with Airy playful Gemini energy will encourage us to be more open-minded and accepting of all the different aspects of ourselves.

2020 has already been a lesson in practicing some of Gemini’s specialties: adaptability and flexibility. With the Holiday season upon us, we’re finding ways to accept all of the ways this year is different while still creating memories and honoring traditions. Oftentimes if we have things in our lives that aren’t working, we think we need to swing so far to the opposite direction in order to set things right. Curious Gemini teaches us that we don’t always have to think in extremes. Instead of heading in the opposite direction we can use duality to see all the different sides of a situation. Making changes this way may mean moving a little slower, but it usually ends up being a more playful process because it demands us to release more control along the way.

This full moon will teach us the importance of releasing how we expect things to look or be, and allowing them to be exactly as they are. Lunar eclipses are tied to karmic cycles, so the transformative energy of this moon will be linked to things we already know. It will help lead us in the direction of our destiny by encouraging us to transform what’s not working and to be honest with ourselves. Also, solar eclipses are associated with new beginnings and opportunities so you can look forward to that on December 14th!

We tend to think of karma as a type of punishment, but karma is the idea that our actions cause effects and what we put out into the world returns to us in the form of our destiny. Sometimes we can feel stuck in a karmic cycle and keep repeating certain things we know aren’t working and aren’t serving us. By releasing and transforming these actions, thoughts, or mindsets, we can create new karma.

As mentioned before, Gemini is represented by the twins and the symbol is depicted by sets of balanced lines. The stereotype of this sign being “two-faced” is actually pretty far off because it can symbolize perfect balance and peace by embracing different aspects of ourselves and situations. It reminds us to forgo extremes and opposing views and look for ways to incorporate and include. Because this sign relates to communication (which includes media and news coverage), this full moon may also bring closure to topics that have been heavily debated and encourage all of us to find ways to move forward. As crazy as 2020 has been, Gemini reminds us that peace and balance are possible if we’re willing to look beyond what we see on the surface and get curious about ourselves and others.
