Luscious, strong hair is my number 1 beauty goal. I can’t help but stare whenever I see someone with a gorgeous head of hair and I’m not shy when it comes to asking what products they use so I can work some into my own routine.
Outside of shampoos, conditioners, serums, and other things you can buy at the drugstore or your local Ulta, there’s one type of product that seems to work wonders on all hair types. And guess what — you can find it in your kitchen (or grocery store).
Hair oil is easy to find, easy to use, affordable, and an all natural supplement that you can adopt as a method of hair nutrition. Check out our top two favorite oils for healthy hair:
1 – Coconut Oil
Benefits: Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants and also acts as an antibacterial. It’s great for hair growth and works to reduce breakage, all thanks to lauric acid!
How to use: Take a spoonful of coconut oil and drop into a microwave safe bowl. Heat for 10-15 seconds so the oil is more of a liquid texture. Massage the warm oil into your scalp and smooth through the ends of your hair for extra coverage. Leave it in for a couple hours or overnight! Rinse out with your favorite shampoo (you may need to rise twice depending on the amount of oil still in your hair).
Where to buy: Amazon, Trader Joe’s, Thrive Market – don’t bother buying a coconut oil product that says it’s made for hair. The best coconut oil is the stuff that comes in a jar and can also be used for cooking. Just make sure it’s organic and virgin or extra virgin!
2 – Olive Oil
Benefits: Coconut Oils’ heavier and richer sister is rich in omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin E which basically means you can expect moisture rich, protected hair.
How to use: Same situation as coconut oil – heat it up a bit just so it feels good on your hands and your scalp. Work it in from scalp to ends. Wrap your hair in a towel and let it sit for a few hours. Since this is a heavier oil, it’s best to only keep it in for a limited amount of time. Rinse out as desired and do a little countdown for your newly hydrated tresses.
Where to buy: Amazon, Trader Joe’s, really any grocery store. Even Costco!
The list of oils that you’re able to use on your hair goes on, but these are the best options to start with if you’re new to the oil game.
