Find Your Perfect Foundation for New Year’s Eve Photos

It’s almost New Year’s Eve! That means all kinds of events, parties, dinners, and really anything you can imagine to ring in 2019.

It also means that you’re going to be in a ton of photos. You and your friends are going to be posting your faces all over Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and if you’re old school, you’ll be printing them out for your scrapbook 😉

Are you prepared? Is your face primed and ready to make a statement and wow the masses?

We shared some of our favorite holiday makeup trends earlier this month, but in order to make these looks glow perfectly in pictures, you’re going to need a foundation that creates the beautiful canvas for all the other products you’ll be putting on top.

New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to bring out the glitter and glam, and a perfect foundation is only going to highlight the masterpiece on your face.

Foundation is just that, a foundation or a base to build a look. You could have the most beautiful eyeshadow and contour, but if the skin looks uneven or shiny, it can distract from the rest of your hard work.

It’s important to analyze your skin and research products that are not only going to correct skin concerns but enhance your natural beauty.

A major factor to keep in mind while looking for a foundation is to look for small amounts of SPF or just avoid it all together. SPF protects your skin from the sun by reflecting the UV rays off of your face. Unfortunately, it also reflects a camera’s flash.

While a beautiful glowing foundation is desirable, you don’t want it to go too far. SPF 15 or less is ideal for a perfect photo finish.

If you want that “filtered look” without the filter, it’s definitely beneficial to look for a medium to full-coverage foundation. You want an even skin-tone to be the base for the rest of your makeup. By evening everything out, you can contour to get the definition you want.

Another important thing to remember is to take care of your skin before putting anything on top. Make sure to cleanse, tone, and moisturize before putting on any makeup. Giving your skin some TLC is going to create a perfect surface for the foundation. You’ll have a smooth finish, and there’s less of a chance that your foundation will separate.

If you can stay consistent with a skin care regimen a few days before, it’ll be all the better. Use that Christmas cash or Sephora gift card you got this year to try out some new products to pamper the skin.

Knowing your skin type is vital to picking out any kind of face product, especially foundations.

If you’re on the oilier side, you’ll want to avoid foundations that give a dewy finish. That shine that creeps up on you throughout the day is only going to look more obvious.

With drier skin, you aren’t going to want oil-free foundations. These could dry you out even more, and the product may cake or start flaking off. Look for a foundation with hydrating properties and a more radiant finish.

We’ve got several tried and true products that we want to share with you. Hopefully this will narrow down the many options that are out there. These are some of our favorite foundations and face products for taking the perfect selfie, group photo, or candid shot.

L’Oreal True Match Foundation

This is an oldie but a goodie! This was the first foundation I ever used, and it’s still a go-to for me. If you’re looking for a radiant, natural finish with more of a moderate coverage, you will love this foundation. True Match is true to its name as you’re pretty much guaranteed to find your perfect shade. There are 45 colors available which makes it easy to match yourself. It’s available at most drugstores, Target, and Ulta. I suggest going to Ulta to find yours, since they usually provide testers, which you often don’t get with drugstore brands.

Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation

This foundation is AMAZING. I heard so many people raving about it when it first came out, so of course, I had to try it. I mean WOW! I get the full coverage that is so good for photos, but it looks amazingly natural. It gives a subtle but beautiful glow to the skin. It’s almost as if the foundation drapes the face in a silk overlay. The formula is, as they say, weightless. I seriously feel like I’m not wearing anything when I have it on. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but if you save it for special photo-taking occasions, it’s so worth it.

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation

If matte is the only way you do foundation, you have to check out Teint Idole. I can’t even tell you how much I LOVE this foundation. I come back to it again and again. While it does have SPF 15, it’s a low enough amount that you won’t get that dreaded light flashback from the camera. The formula is oil free, but it’s actually okay to use for drier skin types (unless your SUPER dry, then I would go with something a little more hydrating). With one coat, you get a good medium coverage. After two coats, you are glam ready! I love the texture because even with the two coats, it doesn’t feel heavy at all. It’s so buildable and blendable. Your face will look flawless in photos with this foundation. It will always be a staple in my collection.

Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation

Okay, it you’re a full-coverage ONLY kind of girl, you have definitely at least heard of this little beauty. The #FauxFilter Foundation is no joke. The coverage you get from this formula is crazy amazing. I think I use about a pea sized pump, and I look like I’m ready to hit the town. Here’s the catch with this one… you HAVE to use Huda Beauty’s The Complexion Perfection – Pre-Makeup Base Primer beforehand. I tried the foundation prior to purchasing the primer, and I was underwhelmed. It was a little streaky and almost felt sticky. Everyone told me to get the primer, and after I tried it again, I was floored at the results. It truly is worth it. I feel so glam in this foundation, and my face looks perfect in photos!

Face Products that Help With Foundation Longevity

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Collection

Smashbox makes a mean primer. This primer holds your foundation on like nothing else. The original is fantastic, but the collection features 11 primers that address different skin concerns. I struggle with redness in the skin so the Photo Finish Reduce Redness Primer is a life saver. A great foundation can definitely hold its own, but a primer is going to make it 10 times better, especially when you’re out dancing and celebrating late into the night.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Microfinishing Pressed Powder

This powder is translucent, so it’s not going to mess with the color of your foundation. It’s solely for setting your makeup to keep it fresh and matte as the night goes on. It creates a blurring effect, so it’s basically a real life Snapchat filter. There are three colors for different skin tone ranges, so it works for everyone. The compact is thin and sleek, so it fits perfectly in a small purse or clutch. If you’re working up a little bit of a sweat dancing, whip out this setting powder to fix it up. Its name says it all –  HD photos all night!

Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Setting Spray

One last touch to ensure that your face is fabulous the whole night long is to finish it off with a setting spray. Urban Decay is known for the All Nighter, and this stuff is pretty much magic in a spray bottle. You don’t even have to use that much, and it holds your makeup in place for hours. I suggest holding the bottle about 10 inches from the face and then spraying in an “X” motion and then a “T” motion. This will coat the face in an even layer and keep you looking perfectly made up all night.

Alright, I think you’re ready to shine, or rather.. not shine 😉 These products are going to change your photos and make for beautiful memories to be cherished for years to come. Wow your friends with your newfound beauty knowledge and be the belle of the ball as you exude the perfectly finished face. By working with the gorgeous face you already have, you can utilize these products to make a statement no one will soon forget.
