It’s still the first month of the year, and I am curious how many people have decided to give up alcohol in 2021. Whether it is a dry January for you, a few months, or the whole year, these drinks will help you quench your cravings with only the finest. With so many bars closed and people working from home, the night scene is looking a lot different nowadays. While there are less opportunities to go out and have a good time with friends, there are many other reasons people may have decided to take a break from the bottom of the bottle.

Reasons Some People Choose to Avoid Alcohol

Be More Present

We can all admit that when you hop on the train to wine town you are getting ready to chill, responsibility-free. However, one thing that you don’t plan on being is fully present. While it is nice to unwind now and again and disconnect, doing so on a regular basis can have negative consequences for you and those around you. Choosing to be more present may begin with taking a break from mind-altering activities, including alcohol.

Making Helpful Change For Your Mental Health

The aforementioned negative consequences for yourself can include your mental health. Alcohol is a depressant. If you drink as a way to cope with depression, it is widely known that the day after drinking is always worse than when you began. It takes you up, and then brings you right back down. Not to mention that the nutritional and physical toll alcohol has on the body affects your nervous system as your body is a wheel and every spoke plays a role. If you are experiencing anxiety regularly, alcohol might be a stressor making it worse.

Sober Curious

Sober curious is a term used to describe the curiosity that people feel if they haven’t refrained from alcohol but are interested in doing so. What would I be like in social settings without it? Even if you don’t need to drink but do, sober curiosity is becoming thoughtful about your relationship with alcohol.

Consume Less Sugar

Most alcohol causes a spike in your blood sugar. Consuming alcohol in moderate amounts frequently is not good for the ole’ pancreas. Depending on how much and how often you drink, avoiding alcohol would most definitely encourage a healthier you physically.

Fun Booze Alternatives to Try

Liquid Death – Mountain Water in a Beer Can

This one is simple, nothing fancy, but super tasty. It’s water from the Australian Alps. It has a higher mineral content than most, so it tastes rich and let’s be honest, water is a necessity. I know you hear me saying ‘blah blah blah’ at this point; but besides great water, they brand themselves in a beer can. I went to a party with some friends and family that didn’t drink and everyone was sipping out of these beer cans. After being offered one, I was surprised (and thanked by my body) when I sipped on a can of good-quality water. Fun to bring with your friends that are drinking, and even if this isn’t your jam, it’s a pretty great concept.

Hard Kombucha – GT’s Hard Kombucha

Kombucha is a great alternative to alcohol, and quenches my soda cravings when I have them. It also contains probiotics and other organic ingredients that are much better for your body than alcohol. GT recently came out with a few flavors of hard kombucha that have an ABV of 3%. Nothing too crazy, but a nice gentle experience with a great, alcohol-mimicking flavor. I brought one of these to a New Year’s Eve gathering and you better believe I was sipping it out of a cocktail glass over ice. I felt amazing that night and amazing the next day – it is great to know that you will feel the opposite of bloated with this health elixir.

CBD-Infused Drinks – Otto’s CBD Cider

Otto’s CBD Cider is THC free and an alcohol alternative. Using organic apples and organic hemp, these drinks are refreshing and thirst quenching. They come in Hopped Apple, Pineapple Passion, and Pear Rhubarb.

Seedlip Spirits

Seedlip Spirits are vegan, allergy friendly, and sugar free. They include cocktail recipes on their website and let you know what ingredients are used in each. They utilize sustainable practices and natural ingredients. Super fancy and a fun treat, if I do say so myself.

Ritual Zero Proof

Ritual Zero Proof is the highest rated non-alcoholic spirit in the world. The best part is, lean in closer, they have a tequila alternative. TEQUILA. As well as a whiskey and gin alternative. Who doesn’t love a margarita? Make your own margarita or Paloma with this spirit alternative that is made with all-natural botanical, and non-gmo ingredients. It is also made in small batches and totally gluten-free, which can’t be said about a lot of spirits.

There are so many alcohol alternatives to your favorite drinks, and creative, healthy, and delicious ways to go to celebrate special occasions with a drink in hand (alcohol-free of course).
