One of the things I love about collecting crystals is knowing they’re all living happily in my home and keeping my place “high vibe.” If you’ve ever come home from a long day, stepped inside your front door, taken a deep breath, and felt that instant feeling of peace, then you know how important it is to keep the energy of your space clear.
By clear energy, I just mean not taking all the energy of the day and everyone you’ve come into contact with home with you. You may have heard of smudging with a sage stick to clear energy from your home, and that’s a great practice. Most often that’s not something people do every day, but the great thing about crystals is that they’re in your home daily and doing their thing without needing any help from us.
A lot of people, myself included, like to carry their crystals on them wherever they go. But I also really enjoy filling my home with them. They serve a double duty as beautiful decorations and energy uplifters.
Each crystal has its own properties, is made up of different things, and serves its own purpose. There are so many crystals and stones out there, and so much information on each one, that it can seem a bit overwhelming. The good news is you don’t need to know it all!
As I mentioned, there.are.so.many.crystals. I kept this list to 5 crystals because I always think it’s nice to start simple and add on as you want to and are able. This is by no means a list of the top 5 best crystals, just ones I enjoy having in my home and I think are beneficial. In no particular order here we go!
This is one of the first crystals I ever bought and has stayed one of my favorites. It has a unique look and is made up of striations, which are those lines you see on a lot of different crystals and rocks. Black Tourmaline is incredibly grounding and helps protect against negativity (your own and others).
I purchased my first one when I was working in a very stressful environment with a very negative person. I would come home, shower, and do a short meditation with the tourmaline to remind myself that the energy of my workplace was not mine to carry home. It can be good to keep your black tourmaline near your front door to protect you from any negativity that may be trying to make its way in.
This crystal also has striations that run lengthwise down the stone. It’s a beautiful ethereal white color and is said to be made up of moon energy (it’s named after the Greek moon goddess Selene if you’re into knowing that kind of stuff).
It’s one of the most cleansing crystals out there and can even clean your other stones just by sitting next to them. (Side Note: It can be a good idea to “clean” your stones so they don’t get too full of different energies. You can put crystals out in the full moon, smudge them with a sage stick, and most can be put in sunlight but not all).
It’s hard to make a crystal list without including quartz, and this variation is another one of my favorites. Much like tourmaline, this stone helps ground and protect against negative energy. One of the awesome things about this stone is that it takes the negative energy and turns it into positive energy! It’s one of the best stones for releasing resentment and learning to let go of what’s no longer serving you.
I included it on the list because our homes are one of the main places we may dwell on the past or go down the rabbit hole of old stories. Having smoky quartz in your home can help remind you to live in the now.
Again, hard to include a list without quartz. This beautiful pink stone is the stone of love. It encompasses all kinds of love, including self-love and self-esteem. It has a gentle and healing energy that can help open your heart to compassion and universal love. I often enjoy placing a few of these along the edge of my bathtub so I see them first thing in the morning when I shower. I also have a few very small ones I like to tuck into little corners of my home so they can remind me throughout my day to be compassionate and kind.
This is also a great stone to create a little home altar with. This can be as simple as using a windowsill or top of a dresser and adding candles, pictures of people you love, written affirmations, collected items that make you smile, and rose quartz to amplify the energy of love in your home.
To anyone starting out on their crystal journey, I always recommend amethyst. It’s perfect for this list because the vibrant purple color makes for great home decor. Like many on this list, it helps protect, purify, and cleanse. It relieves stress and creates a soothing and calming environment. This is a great stone to have if you suffer from insomnia, because it can help you relax and get a good night’s rest. This is also the stone I recommend for anyone going through any kind of grief or sadness. In a gentle way, it can help comfort and provide peace.
I hope this list inspires you to fill your home with a few gems you love! You get to decide what kind of energy your home is filled with and we all need space to rest and relax in peace. It’s important to remember that you don’t have to take everything home with you and crystals can help create the energy you want for your home.
